The Flow of Dance

Annaliesa Gowe

Just as currents can carve many pathways, Annaliesa Gowe showcases how this connection can happen between ballet and contemporary, two very different yet related styles of dance. This 15 year old student gives us a glimpse of the seldom seen backstage process of a dancer. From donning pointe shoes to warming up her feet and costume changes, her performance captures the quick shift of mindset to effortlessly move from one genre and scene to the next. This dance was choreographed in collaboration with Dance Conservatory of Charleston faculty member Lily Watkins.

Annaliesa Gowe is a pre-professional student at Dance Conservatory of Charleston. She began dancing at age 2 and while she has always been an enthusiastic student committed to some form of dance, she made the decision to focus solely on ballet at the age of 10. Since then, she has danced with the Charleston Ballet Theater and has attended prestigious five-week summer intensives with the Washington Ballet in Washington, DC, Miami City Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, WA.
