TEDxMarionsquare Event Extends Call For Speakers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Area Artists, Leaders, Entertainers, Philosophers, Innovators Encouraged to Apply by January 15

CHARLESTON, SC – December 21, 2012 – TEDxMarionSquare, a conference featuring the region’s leading thinkers, innovators, artists, philosophers and entertainers, announced today they are extending the deadline to submit speaker nominations through January 15, 2013. Speaker submissions are now being accepted at www.TEDxMarionSquare.com.  Event organizers are committed to representing such diverse fields as technology, entertainment, visual and performance art, design, music and education.

“We have received an overwhelming response to our call for speakers and it became obvious that we needed to give people some additional time to submit applications. Once someone is nominated, we then ask the nominee to submit an application.  Charleston harbors an incredible wealth of talent and we want to be sure to give everyone a chance to apply,” said Edith Howle, curator of TEDxMarionSquare.  “Think about those you know who would share a compelling idea or great story in 18 minutes or less.  We encourage everyone to nominate our community’s great thinkers and innovators today.”

Focused on the theme of “Reinvent,” the independently produced event operated under a license from TED, is an all-day immersion experience at the intersection of science, art, performance and business.  It is designed to enrich the Charleston community through entertainment and talks that inspire, engage and transform.  During this day-long event, speakers combined with TEDTalks videos will explore breakthrough ideas that honor the past while bringing forth the full potential of new and innovative thinking.  TEDxMarionSquare, the first of its kind in Charleston, will be held at PURE Theater in downtown Charleston on May 15, 2013.

Individual and corporate sponsorships are also available. Please call Cindy Johnson at 843-720-2857 or email her at sponsors@tedxmarionsquare.com for sponsorship information.

Our event is called TEDxMarionSquare, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxMarionSquare, TEDTalks videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
