CHARLESTON, SC – June 27, 2017 – Tickets for TEDxCharleston, an all-day immersion experience designed to enrich the Charleston community through presentations and entertainment that inspire, engage and transform, will go on sale on Tuesday, August 22. Now in its fifth year, the annual event will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Charleston Music Hall on 37 John Street. Tickets will range from $65 – $85 and will be available for purchase at tedxcharleston.org.
“This year our theme is SHAKE IT UP! and we intend to do just that,” said Edith Howle, organizer and curator of TEDxCharleston. “We have a lineup of incredible presenters that push the boundaries with their ideas, passion and guts. Last year, tickets sold out in four hours. Mark your calendar and get your tickets early.”
TEDxCharleston has made it a mission to not only provide a broad range of ideas to the community, but to include a broad range of Charleston community attendees to experience the event. To help, TEDxCharleston is offering financial aid scholarships to select attendees at this year’s event. Applications are available now. Interested applicants should apply online at tedxcharleston.org by September 1.
TEDxCharleston is excited to announce Marcus Amaker as our 2017 emcee. Amaker, Charleston’s first appointed Poet Laureate and a 2016 TEDxCharleston speaker, will guide the audience throughout the day-long experience. His poems have been featured on PBS Newshour, A&E, the Huffington Post, and in several journals and poetry collections. Amaker is also a well-known graphic/web designer and videographer, producing award-winning work for both local and national nonprofits and organizations including serving as the lead graphic designer for the national music magazine, No Depression.
“Marcus is the epitome of our SHAKE IT UP! theme. After having him as a speaker at TEDxCharleston in 2016, we knew we wanted to bring him back in a grand way. His poetry is gentle, yet powerful and digs deep into unveiling an awe-inspiring perspective on life around us,” added Howle.
The theme Shake It Up! aims to flip the script on conventional wisdom by enriching the Charleston community with unlikely conversation. Shake It Up! challenges the expected, agitates the norm, and greets ideas with opportunity to flourish. 17 presenters will explore new perspectives that transcend normal expectations, inspiring a kick start for the future by setting invigorating ideas into motion.
Presenters for the 2017 event will be announced in July and August before tickets go on sale. More information is available at tedxcharleston.org. Videos of presenters from previous TEDxCharleston events are available for viewing at tedxcharleston.org.
