Code of Conduct

We invite you to join TEDxCharleston in a spirit of curiosity, openness, friendliness, and respect. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, and able to engage in meaningful conversation. Harassment or discrimination in any form will not be tolerated.

At a TEDxCharleston Event, You Agree to:

  • Look out for one another and notify TEDxCharleston organizers or volunteers if you see or experience behavior that may violate this Code of Conduct.
  • Respect the boundaries, privacy, and personal space of others.
  • Engage with others respectfully, even when opinions or perspectives differ.
  • Avoid aggressively promoting or soliciting your own services, products, organizations, or causes.
  • Respect confidentiality requests made by speakers, attendees, and organizers.
  • Help create an environment where everyone feels welcome and included.

These Behaviors Do Not Belong at a TEDxCharleston Event:

  • Harassment, intimidation, bullying, or discrimination of any kind.
  • Unwelcome or inappropriate physical contact, comments, gestures, or advances.
  • Offensive or derogatory comments related to a person’s identity, background, appearance, beliefs, or abilities.
  • Repeated unwanted communication or attention.
  • Disruptive behavior that interferes with the experience or safety of other attendees, speakers, volunteers, or organizers.
  • Aggressive solicitation, promotion, or commercial activity.
  • Any behavior that creates an unsafe, hostile, or unwelcoming environment.

Contact us to report an incident

If you experience or witness an incident that violates this Code of Conduct during a TEDxCharleston event, please contact a TEDxCharleston organizer or member of the event team as soon as possible.

Share as much information as you feel comfortable providing, including what happened, where and when it occurred, and anyone who may have witnessed the incident. This information will help us respond appropriately and thoroughly.

TEDxCharleston’s commitment

TEDxCharleston takes reports of Code of Conduct violations seriously. We will make every reasonable effort to handle reports with discretion and confidentiality while taking appropriate steps to protect the safety and well-being of our community.

TEDxCharleston reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this Code of Conduct, including asking an individual to leave an event or restricting or prohibiting future attendance. Such actions may be taken at the discretion of TEDxCharleston organizers and may occur without a refund.
