Save the Date: TEDxCharleston Tickets Go on Sale August 23
Attendance Scholarships Will Be Available; Becca Barnet Selected to Design Stage
CHARLESTON, SC – June 14, 2016 –TEDxCharleston organizers announced today that tickets for the 2016 event, which will explore the concept of Tipping Point in our community and around the world, will go on sale on August 23. Tickets to TEDxCharleston, which will take place October 19 at the Charleston Music Hall on 37 John Street, will be sold for $65 (plus a $2.50 processing fee) each. Tickets can be purchased at www.tedxcharleston.org.
“Last year our event sold out in under 12 hours, so we encourage anyone who wants to attend this year to jump on the tickets,” says Edith Howle, organizer and curator of TEDxCharleston.
Striving to be inclusive and representative of a broad cross-section of our community, TEDxCharleston is offering financial aid scholarships to attend this year’s event. Applications are available now. Interested applicants should apply online at www.tedxcharleston.org before August 15, 2016. The goal is to provide scholarships for 10 percent of the audience.
TEDxCharleston also announces that Becca Barnet has been chosen as the event’s set designer. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she designs and creates one-of-a-kind décor for restaurants, offices and museums full time and was a lead fabricator for the Madagascar Journey exhibit at the South Carolina Aquarium. She is currently also working on the renovation and re-model of the Charleston Museum’s Natural History Gallery.
“We chose Becca for a myriad of reasons, starting obviously with her talent, but also for her unique ability to use her designs to connect and engage people. Becca is a true Charleston talent and we are proud to have chosen an artist who embodies the spirit of TEDxCharleston,” commented Mara Singer, production co-chair, TEDxCharleston.
TEDxCharleston’s 2014 stage design was recognized in the TEDx Innovations blog.
Speakers and performers for the 2016 event will be announced when tickets go on sale on August 23, 2016. Speakers will explore the concept that tipping points are happening in our community and globally and how those ideas can ultimately create dramatic shifts and larger change. More information is available at www.tedxcharleston.org. Videos of the speakers and performances from previous TEDxCharleston events are available for viewing at www.tedxcharleston.org.
