About the Adventure:

Bill Stanfield will lead us on an adventure showcasing ideas in action from his 2013 TEDxCharleston talk, “When Trying to Solve Problems Does Not Solve Problems.” Bill is the founder and CEO of the Metanoia Community Development Corporation, a grassroots movement of people focused on the holistic redevelopment of some of our region’s most vulnerable neighborhoods. Rather than focusing on problems, Bill believes philanthropy should focus on discovering and investing in the assets of particular individuals and neighborhoods.

We will begin the tour at the St. Matthew Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, where we’ll witness Metanoia’s after-school work with community children. From there, we’ll board the Metanoia bus for an hour-long tour in the surrounding neighborhoods to experience the Metanoia community work. Afterward, please join us for refreshments, mingling and question time at Metanoia’s community café space, a short walk from the parking lot start point.

Directions and Parking:

The Adventure begins in the St. Matthew Church Fellowship Hall at 2005 Reynolds Avenue, North Charleston. Take the Cosgrove Ave. exit off I-26 going toward the Navy Yard, NOT West Ashley/Folly Beach. Travel approximately ¾ mile to Rivers Ave and make a right. Go to your first stop light and make a left on Reynolds Ave. Halfway down the block, turn right into the parking lot surrounded by a big chain link fence and park here. The lot is located behind the St. Matthew Church buildings.

From the parking lot to get to the Fellowship Hall: walk down the sidewalk in between the sanctuary and 3-story red brick building. Almost to the end, take the stairs on the right into the building. Go up the ramp and at the top, make a left into the Fellowship Hall. There will also be signs along the way.
